Maybe you prefer to cut vinyl without a silhouette cutting mat or maybe the material you re cutting is too long to fit on a cutting mat.
Don t be intimated by cutting vinyl without a mat on the silhouette cameo.
If you were cutting a piece of paper without a cutting mat since it has no liner the die cut would fall out.
This will bring up a red cut border and will show you the maximum cut able area of your vinyl.
Next something to keep in mind when cutting without a mat you lose 1 4 of cut able space on your material on the left right side and 1 of cut able space on the backside.
Additionally pop out cut mode is not intended for thin or flexible materials like copy paper or fabric.
When you aren t cutting without a mat you can cut.
If you are using any previous silhouette cutting models cameo 3 portrait 2 etc you must use a cutting mat to cut out cardstock or other paper materials.
If you ve never done that before don t be intimidated by the idea of going matless.
Of course there isn t a ten foot mat available omg how would one store such a thing so if you want to cut longer than 24 cut without a mat.
Save those mats for cardstock.
The same goes for the portrait 2 autoblade.
The silhouette cameo can cut lengths of vinyl or anything with a backing up to 10 feet long.
In most cases there are two quick fixes that will fix the issue and get you cutting successfully in a hurry.
Place the vinyl onto the silhouette cutting mat with the backing paper side down onto the mat making sure the vinyl is covering the same area where the design is placed on the virtual mat in silhouette studio.
Whatever the reason both silhouette studio and your silhouette cameo need to be set up correctly to cut without a mat.
Next the pop out cut feature can be used only with the cameo 4 machine line.
If your silhouette cutting mat is brand new you may want to de stick the cutting mat somewhat by blotting it with a clean t shirt.
